Google Nest WiFi combines the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands into a single network name (SSID). Because the Flame Boss 500 connects only to 2.4 GHz WiFi, it may have difficulty joining your network during setup.
A simple workaround is to create a Guest WiFi network. According to Google, the Guest network uses the 2.4 GHz band, making it ideal for connecting smart devices like the Flame Boss 500.
Configure a Guest Network
Using the Google Home app:
Open the Google Home app.
Create a Guest WiFi network.
Use the following credentials:
Network Name (SSID):
fbPassword:
fb200200
These are the default WiFi credentials stored in the Flame Boss 500 after a factory reset.
Connect Your Flame Boss 500
Step 1 – Factory Reset the Controller
Plug your Flame Boss 500 into power.
Press and hold the Next and Up buttons at the same time until the menu changes.
Use the Up button to navigate to Other and press Next.
At Factory Reset, press the Up button three times.
The controller will restart.
Step 2 – Set the Controller to Station Mode
After the factory reset:
Press Next to open the menu.
Select WiFi.
Select WiFi Mode.
Choose Station.
Exit back to the main temperature screen.
The Flame Boss 500 will automatically attempt to connect to the Guest WiFi network using the default credentials:
SSID:
fbPassword:
fb200200
No additional WiFi setup is required.
Step 3 – Verify the Connection
When the controller connects successfully:
The display will show Online!
Open the Flame Boss mobile app.
Your controller should appear automatically.
The device status will change to Cloud:Ready.
Tap on the blue device name to open the cook settings page.
If the Controller Does Not Appear in the App
If the controller is online but has not yet been added to your account:
Open the Flame Boss mobile app.
Select Add New.
Do not enter the serial number.
Enter the Device ID and PIN shown on the Flame Boss 500 display.
Select Add.
The controller should now appear with a status of Cloud:Ready.
Why This Works
Google Nest WiFi automatically manages wireless bands and does not provide a dedicated 2.4 GHz network. Creating a Guest WiFi network provides a reliable 2.4 GHz connection for the Flame Boss 500.
Using the default Guest network credentials (fb / fb200200) allows the controller to reconnect automatically after a factory reset without requiring manual WiFi setup.
