Google Nest WiFi combines the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands into a single network name (SSID). Some smart devices that only support 2.4 GHz may have difficulty completing the initial setup because the phone and controller must communicate on the same wireless band.

A simple workaround is to create a Guest WiFi network. According to Google, the Guest network operates on the 2.4 GHz band, making it ideal for connecting 2.4 GHz-only smart devices.

Configure a Guest Network

Using the Google Home app:

  1. Open the Google Home app.

  2. Create a Guest WiFi network.

  3. Use the following credentials:

    • Network Name (SSID): fb

    • Password: fb200200

These are the default WiFi credentials stored in the Flame Boss controller and allow the controller to connect automatically without manually entering WiFi settings.

Connect Your Flame Boss 400 or Egg Genius

Step 1 – Put the Controller into Access Point Mode

Press the reset button once (about 1 second) using a paperclip.

  • The LED should begin slow blinking (once per second).

Step 2 – Factory Reset the Controller

While the LED is slowly blinking:

  • Press and hold the reset button until the controller performs a factory reset.

  • When complete, the LED will return to a slow blink.

Step 3 – Switch to Station Mode

Press the reset button once (about 1 second) while the LED is slowly blinking.

The controller will automatically switch to Station Mode and connect to the Guest WiFi network using the default credentials:

  • SSID: fb

  • Password: fb200200

No additional WiFi configuration is required.

Step 4 – Verify the Connection

Open the Flame Boss or Egg Genius mobile app.

If the controller has connected successfully:

  • The controller will appear in the app.

  • The status will show Cloud:Ready.

  • The LED on the controller will become solid.

At this point, your controller is online and ready to use.

Why This Works

Google Nest WiFi automatically manages wireless bands and does not normally allow users to select only the 2.4 GHz band. Creating a Guest WiFi network provides a reliable way for the Flame Boss controller to connect using the 2.4 GHz frequency it requires.

Using the default Guest network credentials (fb / fb200200) also eliminates the need to manually configure WiFi during setup.
